Scotland’s Secret Bunker lies in the heart of rural Fife between Anstruther and St Andrews and was built during one of the darkest periods of British history. Today the bunker is open as a museum and thousands of visitors flood in every year to see exactly what lies beneath the ground here at Troywood.

The bunker is brought alive by our diverse collection of objects covering all aspects of the bunker’s history. Many original items are on display including the red war telephone and safe built to contain the security codes needed to authorise retaliatory strikes. Authentic footage is shown in three cinemas including broadcasts prepared by the BBC to advise householders on building shelters and reinforcing their homes against nuclear attack.

Many of the items in our collection originated here but we have been greatly aided over the years by the kind donation of items from personal collections including uniforms and photographs. These help to tell the human story of the bunker and highlight the fact that service men and women would have left their families to fend for themselves while they worked in the relative safety of the bunker.

We are always looking to improve our displays to add to the level of information available to visitors and welcome donations of items related to the bunker and Cold War history. So if you have unwanted uniforms or artefacts lurking in the attic why not give us a ring and donate them to the Bunker!
