Debra, Working for a life Free of Pain!

The first day, stopping at the Secret Bunker, of a 1500 grueling miles round the coast of Scotland charity cycle.

Squadron Leader Andy Grist is a 36 yr old logistics officer, currently based at RAF Kinloss. He has undertaken several endurance challenges before but never one on 2 wheels. He is training by riding the 34 miles each way to work as often as he can. He is taking part in the challenge to try and raise funds and awareness for DebRA as a token of his gratitude for how they have helped Isla and his whole family over the last 20 Months. Andy is one of the 4 Cyclists.

Squadron Leader Steve Brealey is a 31 yr old Personnel Support Officer in the Royal Air Force. Listing Cycling as one of his hobbies, he tries to ride most weeks but always seems to find an excuse not to (too cold, too wet etc). His last event was to ride as part of a group from London to Kinloss (850 miles) raising money for Help for Heroes. Notwithstanding the personal challenge, his reason for attempting this ride is to support the work of the DebRA Charity and the inspirational achievements of the Grist family. Steve is one of the 4 Cyclists.

Warrant Officer Nick Styles (46 (Old Man Of The Team)) started Cycling in 2005. Since then he has completed many training miles on the road. However, the 2 journeys he is most proud to have completed are a John ‘O’ Groats to Lands End in 2007 (900 miles in 11 days raising £2,500 for Flt Lt J Martin, who broke her back in a training accident and required a wet room erecting within her house to allow wheelchair access) and a Santa Monica California, to Ground Zero, New York City ride in 2009 (3181 miles in 38 Days, raising £35,000 for Help 4 Heroes). He is now looking forward to getting back in the saddle and raising funds for DebRA to try and help the little heroes and heroines who are suffering daily from this horrific condition. Nick is one of the 4 Cyclists.

Warrant Officer Calum Ferguson (46) started Cycling in 2004. In his former life he played rugby to a reasonable standard before injuries forced him to retire. He introduced Nick Styles to cycling and was of the team which completed the John O Groats – Land’s End ride in 2007. Since then he has ridden London – Paris, Edinburgh – London and several stages of the Tour de France. He is very much looking forward to what is his biggest cycling challenge to date and raising monies for an exceptionally worthwhile cause. Calum is one of the 4 Cyclists

RAF Kinloss Teams Take on Scotland Challenge for DebRA
A team based at RAF Kinloss, are this weekend beginning a series of grueling challenges to raise funds for DebRA and awareness of EB.
Three teams from RAF Kinloss will take on a grueling Round Scotland Challenge to raise awareness and money for DebRA. One team will take on the mammoth task of cycling the coast and border of Scotland, whilst the other 2 teams kayak or walk the breadth of the country.
The cyclists will pedal over 1500 grueling miles round the coast of Scotland in 14 days, covering hills and mountains the equivalent of over 46,000ft. The walkers have 6 days to cross some of Scotland's most difficult terrain as they walk 172 miles from the furthest westerly point of the mainland back to RAF Kinloss. The final team will use kayaks to cover 146 miles across the country in 6 days battling tides and weather to complete the challenge.
The RAF Kinloss team is taking on the challenge thanks to Squadron Leader Andrew Grist, whose daughter Isla has a severe form of the condition. Andy, who is leading the cycling team comments: "This is a huge team effort, from those of us physically carrying out the challenges to our support teams. We have all been preparing and training hard, and don't underestimate the scale of any of the three challenges. There is currently no cure for Epidermolysis Bullosa. We are doing this to raise awareness and hope to raise money for essential research and specialist nursing support funded by DebRA."
All three teams hope to finish at their final destination, Findhorn, at the same time on Friday 18th June.
